Speech and Language Therapist - Waterloo Manor Hospital (Leeds)

Pay: £24,000.00
Hours: 16 hours per week / Monday - Friday (Flexible working as required by the service)
Job Type: Part Time, Permanent
Job Purpose
To assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties, supporting patients to achieve their maximum potential in speech, language, and safe eating and drinking.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Intervention
· Assess patients with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders
· Develop and implement individualised therapy plans
· Provide treatment for conditions such as aphasia, autism spectrum disorder, and dysphagia
· Monitor progress and adapt interventions accordingly
Patient & Family Support
· Educate patients, carers, and families on communication strategies
· Provide guidance on safe swallowing and dietary modifications
· Support individuals to improve independence and quality of life
Multidisciplinary Working
· Work closely with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and dietitians
· Contribute to care plans and case reviews
· Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings
Documentation & Administration
· Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional standards
· Prepare reports and therapy plans
· Use electronic health record systems effectively
Training & Development
· Provide training to staff on communication support and swallowing safety
· Stay up to date with evidence-based practice and professional development
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Skills
· Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
· Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
· Membership (or eligibility) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to assess, plan, and deliver therapy independently
Desirable
· Experience in a healthcare or mental health setting
· Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
· Experience with complex cases or specific patient groups
