Waterloo Manor Hospital is the largest female personality disorder service in the United Kingdom, providing specialized assessment and treatment for women with complex mental health needs.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Activity Coordinator to join our team!
Job Purpose
To plan, organise, and deliver a range of therapeutic and recreational activities that support the mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of patients within a mental health inpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities
Activity Planning & Delivery
· Design and deliver structured daily activity programmes for patients
· Facilitate group and one-to-one sessions (e.g. arts, crafts, games, exercise, music)
· Adapt activities to suit individual needs, abilities, and risk levels
· Encourage patient participation to promote recovery and independence
Patient Support
· Engage positively with patients experiencing conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or anxiety disorder
· Provide emotional support and motivation
· Observe and report any changes in patient behaviour or wellbeing to clinical staff
Collaboration
· Work closely with nurses, occupational therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team
· Contribute to care plans by providing feedback on patient engagement and progress
· Support ward routines and therapeutic goals
Organisation & Administration
· Maintain activity schedules and records of participation
· Order and manage activity materials and equipment
· Ensure activity areas are safe, clean, and well-organised
Health, Safety & Safeguarding
· Follow all health and safety procedures within a mental health setting
· Conduct risk assessments for activities
· Adhere to safeguarding policies and maintain patient confidentiality

Essential Skills & Qualities
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Creativity and enthusiasm for planning activities
· Ability to engage and motivate individuals with diverse needs
· Patience, empathy, and a calm approach
· Basic organisational and record-keeping skills
Desirable
· Experience in a care, support, or mental health setting
· Understanding of mental health recovery approaches
· Relevant qualification (e.g. health & social care, psychology, or activity leadership)
